Puigcerda

Latour-de-Carol-Enveitg is situated in the village of Enveitg and on one of the routes between France and Spain. It’s a big station for a little village and it’s fair to say, there isn’t a whole heap to do here - that’s part of its charm for locals. But if this is where you are going to be hanging around waiting for a train (not such a big deal from France to Spain, but could be a bit of a wait going the other way), why not find another way to while away some time?

So let’s get off the train from Barcelona a stop early, have a mooch about Puigcerdà and then walk the last bit of the journey to Enveitg.

Wander to Latour de Carol - Enveitg station (5K)

First leave the station and head for the funicular railway to take you up to the town

Then have a little mooch about before leaving town and heading for the Camí de la Vinyola, which is part of the Smugglers’ Trail

Keep on this road all the way to the border.

When you reach the train line, you have a choice. You could follow the road that parallels the train track (green route on the map) or carry on along this road (blue route) until you come to a big lump of stone, that looks rather like a tombstone.

Have a look around the other side.

Looks like you’ve left Puigcerda and as a result, you’ve left Spain.

You could have taken the train, but crossing a border on foot is far more satisfying.

Let’s push on.

A path leads off to the right to take you to Enveitg, but if you miss it (I did), you can take the road all the way to the end and then turn right along the Avinguda de la Diade de Cerdagne to get to the station from the other end of the village (red route on the map).

Have a little look around Enveitg, before heading to the station.

On the platform, you might see the train you could have caught and the sleeper to Paris
